CANNON
(this article was submitted by Harry M. Ozier) about Stephen Jasper
Cannon.
"On March 20, 1866, in Fayette County he married Nancy Stafford who was
born in
Moore County, North Carolina, on May 12, 1839. She was the daughter of
John and
Catherine Stafford who came from North Carolina to District 15 in a
covered wagon
during the early 1800's. Stephen and Nancy had three boys that died in
infancy and one girl, Martha Jane (Mattie), who was born on January 7,
1867.
"In 1881 Stephen, Nancy, and Mattie moved from district 15 in Fayette
County to La Grange, Tenn. Stephen died on December 26, 1886, and Nancy
died on October 17, 1914. They were buried in the La Grange Cemetery.
"Mattie married an unrelated Stafford, Emmett Alfonzo Stafford of La
Grange, on February 25, 1886. Emmett was the son of Vincent R.
Stafford (1813-1878) from North Carolina;
his mother was Mary Harriet Dyer ( - 1903). . . . . . . "
