Surrogates Court
To Hon Harvey D Smith Surrogate of said county
The petition of Freelove Soper of Parishville in said county respectfully showeth that your petitioner is the sole executrix and Porter Patterson is the sole executor named in the last will and testament of Thomas Stafford late of Parishville aforesaid. Former deceased, that said deceased was at the time of his death an inhabitant of the said county and departed this life at Parishville aforesaid on the twenty third day of June AD 1862 and left a last will and testament which relates to both real and personal estate. Your petitioner further showeth that the heirs and next of kin of said Thomas Stafford deceased and the residences of each so far as is known to your petitioner is as follows to wit his widow Lydia Stafford who resides at Parishville in said county his son John Stafford who resides at Potsdam in said county his son Stephen Stafford who resides at Honitos in the State of California his son George W Stafford who resides at Peru in the County of Clinton in the State of New York his daughter Sarah Champney wife of Lemuel Champney who resides at Parishville aforesaid his granddaughter Orpha Nichols wife of Ira Nichols and daughter of Erastus Stafford deceased, who resides at Massena in said County of St Lawrence his grand-daughter Lovisa Clark wife of Wallace Clark and daughter of said Erastus deceased, who resides at Stockholm in said county of St Lawrence his grandson John Stafford son of said Erastus deceased, who resides at Stockholm aforesaid. His granddaughters Candace Stafford Samantha Stafford and Lovinia Stafford daughters of said Erastus deceased all of whom resided when last heard from by your petitioner from yet reside as your petitioner believes somewhere in the State of Illinois but of what particular place your petitioner is unable after diligent inquiry duly made to learn his grandson Robert Stafford son of said Erastus deceased who resides at Stockholm aforesaid and his daughter your petitioner Freelove Soper who is the wife of Edward Soper and resides at Parishville aforesaid and his grandson Cyrus Stafford son of said Erastus Stafford deceased who resides somewhere in the State of California but at what particular place your petitioner does not know and has been as yet unable to learn after due and diligent inquiry for the same duly made by your petitioner that said widow Lydia and all of said heirs are of full age except said Lovinia Stafford who has no general guardian in this state. Your petitioner therefore prays that said last will and testament may be proved and letters testamentary granted thereon according to law.

◦Biography of Thomas Stafford
St Lawrence County, NY Biographies
Stafford, Thomas, Brasher Falls, was a native of Peru, Clinton county, and came to Potsdam in 1818. He was a blacksmith by trade. He married Lydia Green. a native of Clinton county, by whom he had seven children, He lived to the age of eighty eight years, and his wife to the age of ninety. Erastus, the second child, was born in 1800, and came with his father to this county. In 1843 moved to Stockholm, where he worked at wool carding and dressing cloth. He died in January, 1861. His wife was Prudence Perkins, of Potsdam, by whom he had twelve children, eight now living. John P., the third child, was born January 4, 1828, at Stafford's Corners (in Potsdam), and in early life engaged with his father in the manufacture of cloth in Stockholm. He came to Brasher in 1866, and engaged in the same business, which he still continues. In 1853 he married Martha Bicknell, whose grandfather, Amos B., was the original settler of Bicknellville, in Stockholm, and after whom the place was named. Mr. and Mrs. Stafford had two children: Ella, deceased, and Cassius, Mr. Stafford is a Republican, and his wife is an active member of the M. E. Church.
