Paul M. Stafford, 97, of Dresden, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, January 22, 2015 at the Helen Purcell Home surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 23, 1917 in Dresden, he was a son of the late Charles O. and Ura (Meredith) Stafford
He was a 1937 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School.
Paul was a United States Army World War II veteran serving in Normandy, Northern France, Belgium, Germany and North Africa. He received the Bronze Star and the French Jubilee of Liberty Medal.
Mr. Stafford was a member of Dresden Madison Presbyterian Church, Dresden Lodge #102, F. & A. M., Dresden American Legion Post #399, and Dresden V. F. W. Post #11072.
Before his time in the Army, Paul worked with his Dad and Uncle at Stafford’s Sinclair Station in Dresden. After the war, he and his brother operated the station for many years.
He later worked at Line Material in Zanesville and he retired from Rockwell International of Heath, Ohio. After his retirement he enjoyed many years as a tour guide with The Longaberger Company, and many fun times with his grandchildren.
Paul is survived by a son Richard (Becky) Stafford; two daughters, Paula (Max) Steele and Donna (David) Hood, all of Dresden; five grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Steele, Kindra (Steven) Kauffman, Roxanne (Steve) Hutchison, Rachel (Jason) Hindel, and Kyle Hood (Brianna Coffey); four great grandchildren, Dakota Stafford, Makayla Hutchison, Anthony Steele and Kate Steele; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary K. Stafford whom he married March 14, 1948 and who died May 12, 1990 and two brothers, John Stafford and Ed Stafford.
Calling hours will be from 2pm to 5pm Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Dresden Lodge #102 will conduct Masonic Services at 5pm Sunday, following calling hours.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, January 26, 2015 at the funeral home with the Rev. Darla Revennaugh officiating.
Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery. Dresden American Legion and Dresden VFW will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
