Obituary:
- Peru — Joanne W. Stafford, 49, of the Union Road, Peru, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Albany on May 25, 1953, the daughter of Nelson J. and Henrietta P. (Peters) Williams.
Joanne graduated from Bethlehem Central School in Delmar in June of 1971 and received an associate's degree in May 1973 from SUNY Cobleskill.
She married Allan L. Stafford on Sept. 28, 1974, at St. Paul's Church in Albany. She was Town Clerk and Tax Collector for the Town of Peru.
Mrs. Stafford was a member of the Peru Community Church and Ladies Guild, a member of the Peru Town Board, a director on the Clinton County Fair Board and a leader with the Whispering Pines 4-H Club.
Survivors include her husband, Allan L. Stafford of Peru; two sons, John N. Stafford of SUNY Cobleskill and Michael L. Stafford of Peru; her mother, Henrietta "Pat" Williams of Peru; her mother-in-law, Muriel Stafford; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, James and Judy Stafford of Texas and David and Caroline Stafford of South Dakota; and five nieces.
Her father, Nelson J. Williams in 1982; her aunt, Jane E. Williams; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. David J. Williams and Mr. and Mrs. John G. Peters Sr.; her uncle, John G. Peters Jr.; and her father-in-law, Richard Stafford, predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at 4 p.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with the Rev. Robert Svenson, associate pastor of the Peru Community Church, officiating and Rev. Kenneth Parker, pastor of the Peru Community Church, assisting.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to CVPH Medical Center, c/o Janice Hess, FitzPatrick Cancer Center, 75 Beekman St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.
