Mr. Max G. Stafford, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at his home.
He was born April 30, 1928 in Spruce Pine, N.C., a son of the late Julius Winslow and Abilene McKinney Stafford.
Max was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served between 1946 and 1948 on the USS Saratoga. He attended Brevard College and Evans Business College. Max retired from Public Service after 30 years of service in the print shop and billing. He was a member of the Industrial Management Club (IMC).
Max was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church in Gastonia where he was a former Deacon and Boy Scout Leader. He was also active in coaching Little League and Pop Warner football teams. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.
Survivors of Mr. Stafford include his wife of 55 years, Margaret Ward Stafford of Belmont; sons and daughters-in-law, William "Billy" Ward and Ring Torrence Stafford of Gastonia; Robert "Bobby" McKinney Stafford and wife, Anna Jarrell of Gastonia; grandchildren, Damon Stafford and wife Stephanie of Charlotte; Travis Stafford of Cary; and Kenan Stafford of Gastonia; sister, Frances Stafford O'Brien of Long Boat Key, FL; brothers, Bob Stafford of Helena, MT; Bryce Stafford of Benicha, CA; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Carter of Charleston, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, Earl Stafford, Sherill Stafford, Ken Stafford, Jackie S. Lyday, and Polly S. Cox.
