George is believed to be the son of JOHN PHILIP NISSEN, b. ca 1813, & MARY A. E. VAWTER, b. ca 1813, who were married ca 1835. They were listed in the 1850 Census for Forsyth County, NC (household # 359/370) (see below) and were neighbors of Robertson STAFFORD, Sr., his son Robertson STAFFORD, Jr and their families (household # 388/399).
During the 1850 Forsyth census, William L. SWAIM (age 32) and his wife, Paulina VAWTER (age 27) were living in household # 217/217. Andrew J. STAFFORD was living with his family in household # 618/628; John Monroe STAFFORD and his family were living in household # 606/616.
