The following information provided by Jane Oakes, 21025 Brumley Gap Rd., A bingdon, VA 24210 in April 2002:
"James was the executor of Isaac's estate. He was a farmer. James is bur ied in Elm Grove Baptist Church Cemetry in Guilford Co., NC. Later I w as given information that he was buried in the cemetery on Flat Rock Metho dist which is just down the road from Elm Grove. James enlisted in the CS A, NC 45th Infantry, Company B, on February 27, 1862.. He enlisted as a sa rgent, in Guilford Co. at the age of 20. He was wounded in the arm at Get tysburg July 3, 1863. He was wounded in the right foot at Spotsylvania Co urt House on May 10, 1864. He right leg was amputated at the knee. He w as absent until February 1865. He was paroled at Greensboro, NC May 5, 18 65. In the 1860 Guilford Co., NC census James was 18, single, living at h ome and born in Guilford Co. In the 1870 Guilford Co., NC census, Brace 's township, Summerfield post office, 'James E. Oaks' 28, a farmer, marri ed and born in NC and worth $1,125.00. In the 1880 Guilford Co., NC cens us James 'Oaks' was 40, a farmer, married, lives in the Oak Ridge distri ct and he and both his parents were born in NC.....Burial: Flat Rock Metho dist Church Cemetery in Guilford Co., NC."
