- William and Mary Whicker Hester did not have a son named James. You are co rrect about Temperance Hester marrying Sowell [Sewell] Frazier. In fact wh en William's Mary died in 1808, she left her entire estate " to my trus ty son in law, Sowell Frazier who has kept me, without compensation for t he last twenty years", all of my estate. By the way, Temperance is list ed in the DAR as " having supplied beef to the Continental Army". Two of h er brothers, Benjamin and John Hester, my gggg-grandfather, fought in Nor th Carolina against the infamous "at least to Americans", Colonel Tarleto n.
