Hazel Stafford McCraw, 93, died Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Winston-Salem, N.C.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday September 20, at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel, 213 West Mountain Street, Kernersville, with Rev. Bobby Stafford officiating. Private interment services will be held in Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro.
Hazel was born in Guilford County, on January 21, 1915, to the late Sarah Gray and Jabe Suttle Stafford. She grew up on a farm with her five brothers and two sisters.
Hazel and her late husband, Howard Cabe McCraw, were avid travelers who traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada by motorcycle, a car, and their light airplane. In 1954, they participated in an extensive amateurs light airplanes tour of South America. Hazel worked at various jobs where her travels took her. Her last job was at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. In 1986, Hazel enjoyed a cruise from New York to Australia. She enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, flowers, and animals. She also loved to spoil her family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lindsay Harper, Marion Gray, and James Ned Stafford.
Survivors include her sisters, Mary Stafford Coble of Greensboro and Jane Stafford Sporleder and her husband, Arnold of Kernersville; brothers, Dale Suttle Stafford of Whitsett and Elmer "Landis" Stafford and his wife, Rachel of Greensboro; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Bill Jennings.
