  KERNERSVILLE - Mr. James Edward Southard, 75, of 714 Steen Road died Wedne sday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Guilford County, a son of the late Thomas Je fferson and Lillian Isley Southard. Mr. Southard retired from AT&T and was also a retired farmer. He was a mem ber of Stokesdale United Methodist Church, the Communication Workers of Am erica and the Telephone Pioneers. He was preceded in death by a brother, H erbert Southard. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Stafford Southard of the home; two son s, Jimmy Southard of Kernersville and Jerry Southard of Pilot Mountai n; a brother, Martin Southard of Stokesdale; two granddaughters, Bonnie So uthard of Charlotte and Pam Williams of Kernersville; two stepsisters, Mar tha Howerton and Lou Pruitt, both of Greensboro; three great-grandchildre n; and special friends, Mike and Debbie Register of Kernersville. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller-Ca in Chapel. Burial will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery. The family will rec eive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
