  Cathy studied at Agnes Scott University and received a bachelor's degree from UNC-CH and advanced degrees in library services at UNC-G. She was the school librarian and technology specialist at Philo Middle School in Winston-Salem. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary organization of woman educators.  Cathy loved sports, literature, music and dogs and was a world traveler. She was known for her wit and intelligence.
