Eunice appears with husband, George Gibson, in the 1920 US Federal Censu s, in Ward 5 of Morgantown, Monongalia County, WV, prior to the birth of t heir children. They could not be found after that until Evelyn Johnson Fr ankenberry said that they moved to Canonsburg, PA. They do appear in t he 1930 Census in Canonsburg, Washington Co., PA, with their two childre n, Dorothy and George, Jr. That census shows that Dorothy was born arou nd 1924 in West Virginia and George, Jr. was born around 1926 in Pennsylva nia, therefore their move from the Morgantown area to Canonsburg occurr ed between 1924 and 1926. According to Evelyn Johnson Frankenberry, th ey were still living in Canonsburg at the time of Eunice's death in 1950.
Prior to their move to Canonsburg, Evelyn relates that George and Eunice l ived along the Monongahela River, on _________ Run, not far from the Fo rt Martin, WV area, where they had a small general store. She remembers t hat her older sister, Ellen Elizabeth, went to stay with George and Euni ce at the time of the birth of their first child, Dorothy. Elizabeth help ed her Aunt Eunice with the baby, housekeeping chores, and occasionally he lped out in the little store.
Evelyn further recalls that her Aunt Eunice was a very stylish and thought ful person. Eunice started a tradtion in the James Quinter Johnson famil y. When a family member died, she had a special wreath prepared. It w as filled with colorful flowers, and a white flower was placed among th em for each deceased family member, and the count of white flowers includ ed Libby, Eunice's younger sister, who died as a very young child. Evel yn also relates that her father, Frank Johnson, was extremely fond of Euni ce, to whom he referred as his "baby sister". On observing the special wr eath at one funeral, he remarked to Eunice "It makes one wonder who wi ll be next." As it turned out, Eunice was the next family member to g o, in 1950. Frank followed not long after, in 1954.
