The Smith, the Families of Jefferson, John, William, Jesse, and Jasper. J efferson Smith (ca. 1838-1905) and his wife came from the Abbott's Creek a rea of Forsyth County to Deep River in the 1870's. They bought the Par is Benbow farm which was just west of Highway 68 along the Burnt Poplar (G allimore Dairy) Road. Jefferson Smith was a hard worker and a large ma n, and it was said of him that when he went for a pair of shoes he alwa ys called for the largest size the store carried. He farmed and operat ed a blacksmith shop, and before the end of the century he owned three far ms in Deep River, and thus a farm for each of his three sons: Lewis, Joh n, and Wesley. Jefferson and his wife died in the early 1900's and were b uried in the cemetery at Abbott's Creek alongside their parents.

RURAL HALL — Mrs. Thelma Mae Eads Smith, 80, widow of Lacy Jefferson Smit h, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Moody Funer al Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Dixon wi th burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born in Surry County on May 6, 1922, the daughter of the la te Sanford Eads and Ura Pruitt Eads.
She was retired from King Hosiery Mill and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Lacy and Betty Smith of Siler Cit y; two grandchildren and spouses, Adam and Kerriann Smith of Rural Hall a nd Michael and Gail Smith of Denton; two step-grandchildren, Chris Scott a nd Deidre Scott, both of Denton; five great-grandchildren, Wyatt Smith a nd Jamie Smith, both of Rural Hall, Shane Smith, Josh Smith and Paul Smit h, all of Denton; two sisters and brother-in-law, Clarabelle and Bernie Ma uldin and Lorene Kidd, all of High Point.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in dea th by two sisters, Pearl and Kate; and one brother, Louie.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Moody Funeral H ome.
