- From Will of his father, Thomas Henry Rives:
2nd. I give and bequeath unto my son Edwards Rives in addition to the La nd I have before given him, one Negro Man named Pompey to him and his hei rs forever previously delivered unto my said son Edwards.
Raleigh Register and North Carolina State Gazette, p. 361:
Rives, Edward, Feb. 2, Chatham county, R.R. Sept 7, 1840.
Walter Siler had this man listed as “Edward Rives,” but the correct name w as Edwards Rives (1775-1840). From the "Deaths" column, The Raleigh Regist er, 3/6/1840: "Athis residence, in Chatham County, on the 2d. of Februar y, in the 65th year of his age, Edward Rives, Esq. In him the citize ns of Chatham have lost one of their best, most useful and influential cit izens. Such was his devotion to justice and probity, that he was the na me of the "honest man" and impartial magistrate; while his generous and li beral soul marked him for the most confiding and enduring friendship."
