According to the post by Alex Thompson, Mary Steel, who wed Jacob Gree r, was a daughter of John Steel and Mary Shaw. After John Steel died, Ma ry Shaw Steel then married James Crutchfield, on 15 Dec 1794 in Orange C o. NC. Their son, James Crutchfield married Sarah Sallie Moore on 18 Jul 1 828 in Orange Co. NC. One of their children, Paul D. Crutchfield, marri ed Emma J. Jeter on 16 Jan 1873 in Haywood Co. TN. The persons buried in M t. Moriah Cemetery, Fayette Co. TN, that you report, appear to be this Pa ul D. Crutchfield, his wife Emma, their daughter Blanche Crutchfield, the ir son George J. Crutchfield, and their daughter Pauline Crutchfield. I c an only suspect that the Maggie Grear you report is somehow relat ed to or descended from Mary Shaw Steel wife of 1st John Steel and 2nd Jam es Crutchfield. Alex Thompson reports the Greer spelling instead of the Gr ear spelling. From your posting about the cemetery we see:
NAMES ON HEADSTONE ARE:
James 1805 - 1882
Sallie 1807 - 1899
Paul 1849-1926
Emma J. 1852-1898
Blanche 1874-1893
George J. 1879-1898
Pauline 1890-1914
and the name
Maggie Grear
I don't research the Greer line, therefore I don't know how or if Maggie G rear is a descendant of Mary Shaw Steel, however because of name similari ty and locations it appears likely.
