Lets see.... Yes, I have a copy of Cannon Smoke. John Jay Good's wife, Sus an Anna Floyd was the sister of Frances "Fannie" Floyd Crutchfield, wi fe of James Oscar Crutchfield, my great-great grandfather.
Thomas Ferguson Crutchfield, owner of the Crutchfield House in Dallas - t he 'first' hotel did not own a chain of hotels - however, I believe he w as a nephew of the owner of the Crutchfield House in Tennessee. I have so me information buried deep in a file that probably would tell the relation ship. Thomas's father, John moved from Tennessee to Kentucky. Some of h is brothers stayed in Tennessee where their father James had been given la nd... He was killed in Tennessee in an Indian battle. I do not recall t he name of the brother that had the hotel.... Wm. Henry????
James Oscar Crutchfield was not in Good's Battery with Tom. He served in C hisholm's Cavalry Regiment.
I have copies of letters that my great-great grandmother, Fannie, wro te to her sister Susan during the war... They are wonderful.
The first white child article that you referred to would be about Martha A lice West who married Thomas Henry Floyd, a brother of Fannie and Susan An na or "Annie" He did serve in Good's Battery and is referred to in the let ters mentioned above.
I will check my Dallas books and see what I can find under Newton.
