NOTE: The above Eli INGRAHAM is possibly the son of James Ingram (b c18 06 in Caswell Co.) and died Aug 1865 in Forsyth Co. and his wife Nancy Whi cker (b c 1810) and died Sept 1843...this would probably make Eli Ingrah am a nephew of Eli Whicker.

20th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
20th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 10th Volunteers, was assembled at Smi thfield and Fort Caswell, North Carolina, in July, 1861. Its members we re drawn from the counties of Brunswick, Columbus, Cabarrus, Duplin, and S ampson. After serving in North Carolina, the unit moved to Virginia and w as assigned to General Garland's, Iverson's, and R.D. Johnston's Brigad e. It participated in the various campaigns of the Army of Northern Virgin ia from the Seven Days' Battles, 11 killed and 30 wounded in the Maryla nd Campaign, and 3 wounded at Fredericksburg. It reported 77 casualti es at Chancellorsville, and of the 372 engaged at Gettysburg, more than si xty-five percent were disabled. The unit surrendered with 4 officers a nd 71 men of which only 9 were armed. Its field officers were Colonels Alf red Iverson and Thomas F. Toon; Lieutenant Colonels John S. Brooks, Frankl in J. Faison, Nelson Slough, and William H. Toon; and Major Duncan J. Deva ne.

22nd Infantry Regiment, formerly the 12th Volunteers, completed its organi zation near Raleigh, North Carolina, in July, 1861. The men were recruit ed in the counties of Caldwell, McDowell, Surry, Ashe, Guilford, Alleghan y, Caswell, Stokes, and Randolph. With nearly 1,000 men, the unit was orde red to Virginia and assigned to the Aquia District in the Department of No rthern Virginia. Later it was brigaded under Generals Pettigrew, Pender, a nd Scales. It fought with the army from Seven Pines to Cold Harbor, took i ts place in the Petersburg trenches south of the James River, and ended t he war at Appomattox. In April, 1862, this regiment contained 752 men, rep orted 161 casualties during the Seven Days' Battles, had 6 killed and 57 w ounded at Second Manassas and 1 killed and 44 wounded at Fredericksbur g. It lost 30 killed and 139 wounded at Chancellorsville and of the 321 en gaged at Gettysburg, over fifty percent were disabled. On April 9, 186 5, it surrendered with 13 officers and 97 men. The field officers were Col onels James Conner, Thomas S. Galloway, Jr., Charles E. Lightfoot, and Jam es J. Pettigrew; Lieutenant Colonels Christopher C. Cole, R.H. Gray, Jo hn O. Long, and William L. Mitchell; and Majors Laban Odell and W.Lee Russ ell.
