Ingram Estate Reports
Back to Ingram's of Chester Co
Our thanks to Patricia Haxton who has provided transcriptions of the follo wing reports to the American descendants of John Ingram by John's descenda nts and their attorney Mr. Whipp, regarding "the investigation of the Ingr am Estate in England."
First Report made in June 1913 by A.D. Ingram, J.L. Phillips and Lesl ie H. Whipp. 24k
Second Report made in 1914 by A.D. Ingram, M.C. Ingram, W.C. Pennock and L eslie H. Whipp. 41k
Note: The reports are text only files. To return to this page, use the "Ba ck" button of your browser.
Each report had apparently been accompanied by a letter from Joe L. Philli ps writing from Cameron, W. Virginia to "Cousin Alice". The first dat ed 31 May 1913 and second 7 June 1914. For the most part, the letters we re private correspondance and do not contain genealogical data, however, t here is one passage in the first letter which does:
"We only needed one thing when now we left England to complete our recor d, to show our ancestry without a single word short, and that was thi s; to show JOHN'S landing in America or his family record. So we came ho me hoping to find it. Abe and myself started another in Philadelphia, a nd on the 13th day of May, to our great surprise we found the following ma nuscript in an old bible that had not been opened for 65 years;
"JOHN INGRAM A SON OF ARTHUR INGRAM, BORN YORKSHIRE ENGLAND, ON THE 6 TH OF THE 4TH MONTH 1693, CAME TO AMERICA IN 1715. SETTLED IN GOSHEN CONCO RD WHITLAND, WAS THE FATHER OF LATHAN INGRAM, OTHER SONS WERE WILLIAM, ROB ERT, JOHN, ELIZABETH, AND PETER.- SIGNED LATHAN INGRAM, BORN IN 1735, DA TE OF SIGNING, 1755. MARRIED SUSANNA LATHAN, DIED IN 1784 AT WILLIAMS.
"The above recital is in Lathan Ingram's own hand writing. Lathan is his o ldest son and our great grandfather. Every thing on this side of the wate rs agrees precisely with the other side, and now we are up to the figh t. We are preparing our manuscripts now to go back and make settlement."
