Know all then by these presents that we - Barlett Y. Hendrix & A. H. Staff ord in the state aforesaid are held & firmly bound unto the State of Nor th Carolina in the just and full sum of one thousand dollars current mon ey of the state, to be paid to the said state of North Carolina, for the p ayment of which well & truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves, our h eirs, executors, administrators, jointly and severally and firmly by the se presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 7th day of March AD 185 3.
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound en Barlett Y. Hendricks hath made application for a license of marria ge to be celebrated between him and Lodeema Shields of the Co. aforesai d. Now in case it shall not hereafter appear that there is any lawful cau se of impediment to obstruct said marriage, then the above obligati on to be void - otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
