Obituary:
- Dr. Chester Tannie Stafford, age 72, of Fort Morgan Road, Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at Cartersville Medical Center.
Dr.Stafford was born March 16, 1939 in Vicksburg, Mississippi, son of the late William Charles Stafford, Sr. and Dorma Bonita Roe Stafford. Dr.Stafford was a Physician, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, specializing in Allergy and Immunology. He was a member of the Nazarene Church,Birmingham, Al.
Dr.Stafford was a graduate of the Medical College of Alabama, Birmingham, AL.Rotating Internship, Martin Army Hospital, Fort Benning, GA.; Internal Medicine Residency, Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco, CA.; Allergy-Immunology Fellowship, Walter Reed General Hospital, Washington, D.C.. His Board Certifications include; Diplomate, American Board of Allergy and Immunology,A Conjoint Board of The American Board of Internal Medicine and The American Board of Pediatrics. He was appointed Chief,Allergy-Immunology Service in Frankfurt, Germany; Chief, Allergy-Immunology Service in Fort Benning, GA and Fort Gordon, GA. At the Medical College of Georgia he was appointed Associate Clinical Professor Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics Allergy-Immunology Section, Professor, Department of Medicine (Primary) and Department of Pediatrics (Joint) Allergy-Immunology Section.
Dr.Stafford’s honors and awards include Phi Eta Sigma Honorary Fraternity; Phi Beta Kappa; Army Commendation Medal; Army Meritorious Service Medal;Powell Outstanding Teacher Award in Family Practice; MCG Five-year Service Award, and Hal Davison Memorial Award for Outstanding Presentation, Southeastern Allergy Association. He was a Fellow of American College of Physicians, American Academy of Allergy and Immunology, American College of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology. Hewas a member of American Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia,Allergy and Immunology Society of Georgia, Southeastern Allergy Association,Association of Military Allergists and Georgia Council of Entomologists.
Dr. Stafford was well known for his presentations at National, Regional, and State meetings;abstracts; professional exhibits, and audio-visual programs; Book reviews; and many publications in various medical journals.
Dr. Stafford waspreceded in death by his brother, William Charles Stafford, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ruth Cook Stafford of Gulf Shores, AL; daughters, Caryl Lynne Stafford Bowen of Dallas, GA and Cynthia Jeanne Stafford Allgood of Evans, GA; son-in-law, Michael Langford Allgood of Evans, GA; grandsons, James Madison Bowen, III of Atlanta, GA, Andrew Chester Bowen of Dallas, GA and Kyle McMichael Allgood of Evans, GA; great-grandson, James Madison Bowen, IV of Atlanta, GA; uncle, Thomas S. Stafford of Fairhope, AL; nephew, William CharlesStafford, III of Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 18th at 12:00P.M. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Brown officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Georgia National Cemetery with full military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 until 12:00 at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will include James Madison Bowen, Jr., Michael Langford Allgood,James Madison Bowen, III, Andrew Chester Bowen, Kyle McMichael Allgood, James Madison Bowen, IV and Paul Daniel Redman.
