  Ron Stafford, a descendant, believes that John was born in 1776 and married only Anna Johnston and that Elizabeth Quine was not a wife. John moved with his family to Jackson Co., TN about 1805. -- MERGED NOTE ------------ Bird L. Stafford's old family Bible recorded the birthdate of his father William as July 1770. It also has the birth year for John Stafford: 1776 On page 46 of Ernst Stafford's book he relates that the Bible was in the possession of Mr. Harvey Gott, a grandson of Bird L. Stafford. 1799 William Stafford signed Bond for Anna Johnston, a single woman who had given birth but refused to name the father of the child. (Anna Johnston married John Stafford 29 July 1800.) Caswell Co., NC Marriage Record: John Stafford to Ann Johnston 29 July 1800 Bondsman William Rainey. 1800 Caswell Co., NC census, page stamped 113. John Stafford 10010 - 00010 (One son under age 10) John moved with his family to Jackson Co., TN about 1805. In Tenn. Court John claimed son John (born 1798) as his own. John is named in his father Laban Stafford's 1811 Caswell Co.
