Mr. Cochran died on Friday, Dec. 16th at the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He attended Pine Hill School & graduated from Newell High School. He was a member of Back Creek Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon & he was a former member of the Newell Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, & baseball coach. He retired from General Motors Parts Division after 30 years' of service He had also been a dairy farm worker. He was an avid gardener & volunteer during his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Catherine (Hunnicutt) Cochran; his parents, Samuel E. Cochran & Agnes (Stafford) Cochran; a sister, Lucille Harris; brothers, Samuel E. Cochran, Jr. & James S. Cochran; & a great-grandson, Josiah G. Cochran.
Survivors include two sons, L.M. "Mickey" Cochran, Jr. & his wife, Anda, of Charlotte, & James Donald Cochran & his wife Joy, of Fayetteville, GA; one daughter, Sheila C. Smith & her husband, Darrell, of Louisville, KY; two brothers, Junius G. Cochran & William L. Cochran; six grandchildren, Daniel L. Owen, Donna L. Pittenger, James D. Cochran, Jr., Andrew B. Cochran, Brian L. Cochran, Christy C. Holson, and five great-grandchildren.
