Certified record from Surgeon General's Offfice, Record and Pension Bureau, Washington DC states that Andrew J. Stafford died 7 Apr 1863 at Benton Barracks General Hospital, St. Louis, MO of meningitis; signed by J.J. Woodward, Asst. Surgeon, U. S. Army, 21 Jun 1864.
Enlisted in Union Army 1 Sept 1861, discharged 8 Apr 1863. Served 1 yr, 6 mo, 23 days in Co. B 24 MO infantry. Sustained loss of left eye and almost total deafness in left ear.
