Bertha Opal Stafford, 83, of Vanceburg (Ky.) Route 1, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 1994, at home after an extended illness.
Born June 16, 1911, at Camp Dix, Ky., a daughter of the late Fred Young and Roberta Howard Young, she was a retired cook for the Lewis County (Ky.) School Board and a member of the Blankenship Church of Christ in Christian Union at Camp Dix.
Preceded in death by her husband, John Stafford, Sept. 7, 1992, she is survived by three sons, Arthur Stafford of Vanceburg Route 1, John E. Stafford of Aberdeen and Allan Stafford of Sarasota, Fla.; three daughters, Berta Pesano and Carol Trembley, both of Sarasota, and Delores Wireman of Lima; two brothers, Bruce Young of Camp Dix and Fred Young Jr. of Vanceburg; two sisters, Irene Shuey of Lima and Emma Jordan of Vanceburg; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and George Young; a sister, Dorthy Word; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, with the Rev. Carolos Rhoades officiating, and interment in Lewis County Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until the services Tuesday.
