- John Stafford was born in York County, VA about 1695, near the present site of Williamsburg. He was the son of John Stafford I , born 1669 and Ann Wyatt, born circa 1672. The family moved to North Carolina before 1700 and settled in Bath Precinct, later in 1712, to become Beaufort County. John Stafford II married Mary Unknown. The date of the marriage has not been found, but their son, Thomas Peter Stafford, was born about 1718. In 1741, John Stafford and his wife, Mary, sold 199 acres which his father, John Stafford I, had willed to him. This is shown in deed book 1, page 133. In Anson County, NC deed book A, page 99 in 1749, John Stafford of Anson County NC sold 213 acres on the Pee Dee River. Later, in 1754, he bought 128 acres on the Pee Dee and a fifty acre tract adjoining. In 1760, he received from King George, a grant of 600 acres in the newly opened land in the Creek Cession along the northern border of Georgia. The grant was in St. Phillips Parish in the part which was later cut off as Franklin County, and still later as Bulloch County. He later moved to Georgia as on Page 305 of Book 1 of Georgia Lnad Surveys, John has had surveyed 150 acres on the north side of the Ogeechee River for Joshua Stafford, his brother, in 1768. He died sometime after 1768.
5. JOHN5 STAFFORD II (ANN4 WYATT, JOHN3, JOHN2, HAUTE1)24,25,26,27 was bo rn 1695 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1768 in Bulloch Co., Georgia. He marri ed MARY Abt. 1717. She died Aft. 1741.
Notes for JOHN STAFFORD II:
In 1741 John Stafford and his wife Mary sold 100 acres which his father John Stafford had willed to him. This is shown in Beaufort Co., Deed Bo ok 1, page 133. By 1745, John and his family had moved to Bladen Count y, in the portion that became Anson County in 1748/9. Anson County, NC, De ed Book A, page 99 reveals that on Sept. 19, 1749, John Stafford of Ans on County, sold 213 acres on the south side of the Pee Dee River to Willi am Kemp for 50 pounds proclamation money. He had earlier obtained this la nd in a deed of conveyance from John Read in 1745. On March 1, 1754, Jo hn Stafford bought 50 acres on the south side of the Pee Dee from Willi am Little for 20 pounds Va money. See Anson Co. Deed Book A, p. 516. In 17 60 he received from King George III a grant of 600 acres in the newly open ed land of the Creek Cession along the northern border of Georgia. The gra nt was in St. Philip Parish in the part which later became Bulloch Count y. John Stafford received a grant dated June 6, 1769 for 150 acres in S t. Philip Parish which had been surveyed on Sept. 5, 1767. The land was bo unded on the southeast by Lambeth Lane and on the northeast by the Ogeech ee River.
