RALPH STAFFORD
(1919-1999)
Ralph Stafford, 79, of Charters, Ky., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Camp Dix, Ky., a son of the late James Stafford and Viola Vergne Stafford. He was a World War II Army veteran having served with the Mechanic 7th Armored Division and having received four Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Aills Christian Church having served as elder, deacon and chairman of the board several times. He was a retired mechanic and a former employee of Vanceburg (Ky.) Motor Company with 35 years of service and Vanceburg Utilities with five years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Scott Stafford of Vanceburg; two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Rachel) Edington of Vanceburg, and Mrs. Ken (Linda) Rote of Frankfort, Ky.; one brother, Bill Stafford of Morris, Ill.; three sisters, Virginia Sowards and Louise Rose, both of Arrowsmith, Ill. and Opal Johnson of Westerville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Woodrow and Ronald Stafford; and three sisters, Lennie Fannin, Evelyn Dummitt and Bertha Dummitt.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg, with Jim Hamm officiating, and interment in Lewis County Memory Gardens in Vanceburg, with military graveside rites by James L. Flannery Post American Legion of South Shore, Ky. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
