Mrs. Audrey “Joyce” Stafford Silvey, age 89, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away Monday evening, February 24, 2020, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born August 14, 1930, in Lewis County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Thomas and Lola May Abbott Stafford.
Joyce was a member of the Vanceburg United Methodist Church. She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, Texas in 1949, and attended Morehead State University. Joyce worked for U.S. Shoe Factory for 18 years, the Golden Living Center in Vanceburg, Kentucky, and taught for the Lewis County School System. She also worked for Kegley’s Appliance and Furniture Store and in her son’s grocery store. Joyce also volunteered several years for the local hospice program. She enjoyed attending Ruggles Camp, teaching Sunday School, spending time with her family, gardening, growing flowers, attending the Grand Ole’ Opry, going to classic car shows and cruise-ins and attending local music shows.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Hobart Silvey.
Joyce is survived by two sons, Anthony “Tony” Silvey and James Silvey Jr. (Sue), all of Vanceburg, Kentucky; one daughter, Kellie Silvey Stafford (Ray) of Morehead, Kentucky; one grandson, James “Erik” Silvey (Brittany) of Vanceburg, Kentucky; and two great grandchildren; Mialyn Silvey and Ledger Silvey; one step grandson, Derek Stafford (Kayla) of Morehead, Kentucky; and a special family, Maggie (Jesse) Atley and Tate Morgan of Vanceburg, Kentucky, that she loved dearly. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020, at Vanceburg United Methodist Church in Vanceburg, Kentucky, with Brother Bob Sweeney and Brother Terry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Silvey Family Cemetery in Vanceburg, Kentucky.
Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020, at Vanceburg United Methodist Church, 111 Second Street, Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179.
Anthony “Tony” Silvey, James Silvey Jr., Ray Stafford, James Erik Silvey, Derek Stafford, and Jesse Morgan will serve as pallbearers. George Abbott and Steve Abbott will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Joyce’s memory to the Vanceburg United Methodist Church, 111 Second Street, Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179.
