Notes |
- JOSEF's birth is recorded in the Vital Registers of the Parish of Nemecke [Snezne], page 129, Inv. No. M 16.768/1820 - 1852, Moravian Provincial Archives [births] in Brno, Czech Republic. At the time of his birth on Feb. 26, 1829, his mother was living in Odranec, house # 10. His godparent was Wenzl Slama of Oranec. Born illegitimate, JOSEF's father is believed to have been Josef Topinka (son of Jiri Topinka and Frantiska Slama) who married his mother,Barbora, three years after the birth of JOSEF.
JOSEF, a Protestant and a farmer, married JOSEFA HUSAK circa 1850. They were still living in Odranec, possibly house # 10, when their first son, Josef, was born in 1851. JOSEF and JOSEFA then moved to Oldris, house # 73, where their second son, Frantisek, was born in 1859.
Several years after JOSEFA's death (Nov. 28, 1883), JOSEF immigrated to the USA circa 1889. [ for further information concerning JOSEF's immigration to the USA, see the notes for his son, JOSEF TOPINKA, Jr.]
Prior to leaving for the States, JOSEF sold (circa 1887- 1888) his house in Oldris, #73 and land to JOSEF JILEK, the father of FRANTISKA (JILEK). She was the first wife of JOSEF, Sr.'s younger son, FRANTISEK TOPINKA, Sr. Apparently, FRANTISEK, Sr., FRANTISKA and their son, FRANTISEK TOPINKA, Jr., had been living in JOSEF TOPINKA, Sr.'s home and continued to live there after her divorce or separation from FRANTISEK, Sr. The evidence suggests JOSEF may have sold his house and land to FRANTISKA's father to pay for FRANTISEK's liberty.
JOSEF TOPINKA, Sr. became known as "JOE" upon arriving in the USA where he lived with his son, FRANTISEK, Sr. (who was then known as "FRANK"), on FRANK'S farm near Ely, Iowa. Other reports, from Policka, Czechoslovakia, indicate that JOSEF,Sr. emigrated to the USA in 1889 with his oldest son, JOSEF. Jr.
JOSEF, Sr. (b Feb. 23, 1829) is believed to have had a first cousin named Jan Topinka (b July 13, 1834 in Odranec, Snezne, Moravia - d Oct. 17, 1917 in Borova, Moravia). Jan's father was Frantisek Topinka, the brother of Barbora Topinka, the mother of Josef Topinka, Sr.
Jan married Frantiska Vasakova, b (?) in Odranec. Their son, also named Jan ( b Nov. 13, 1868 in Borova) married (on Jan. 9, 1902) Anna Seda (b June 11, 1878 in Snezne, Moravia.
Jan, Jr. and Anna had at least four children: Anna (b June 27, 1905 - d Nov. 14, 1905); Josefa (b Nov. 27, 1907- d ?); Jaroslav Topinka (b Jan. 23, 1910- d ?); and Bohumil Topinka (Nov. 20, 1914 - d Sept. 9, 1914)
