- Martin came to the US, initially to Pennsylvania, from Germany via Holland. He is believed to have had six daughters (names unknown) in addition to four sons listed. (data found by Margaret & Doug Harmon in Wilkes County, NC Library).
The Harmons state that three other male relatives of Martin (possibly his father or brothers) came to the US during the same time frame, one of which was a George Sheets. They note that only two individuals named Sheets are listed as living in NC during 1762; Martin and George.
Martin is shown on the 1762 Rowan County, NC Tax Roll and in the 1790 Rowan County census. He also is listed as "Head of Family", entry # 405, in the first US census taken in 1790, North Carolina, Rowan County:

#2492 - Feb, 1780 - Martin Sheets, 300acres on north side of Yadkin River between mouth of Muddy Creek, adjacent to John Miller. Thomas Felps and Peter Goodman for quality made over to Richard Dowell.
#2493 - Feb. 27, 1780 - Martin Sheets, 300 acres on the Big Branch Water of Yadkin River and adjacent to Charles O'Neal, Martin Sheets and Hugh Montgomery for quality.
