  Son of John Stafford and wife Mary Murphy Stafford, he married Frances E. Branch on 24 December 1856 in Carroll County, Mississippi. They had these known children: Eugene, William & Edgar Stafford. Daniel S. Stafford, like many of the Stafford men from Carroll County, Mississippi, enlisted in the Civil War with the Confederacy on 08 February 1863 with the 4th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, Company E. He was captured at Vicksburg on 04 July 1863, swore and Oath of Allegiance on 08 July 1863, was paroled and his Army records state he died at home of disease.
