Obituary:
- J.W. Stafford, 75, of West Point, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Stafford was a retired Supervisor District 3, a position he held for 12 years. He was a Justice Court Judge for four years and the owner of Stafford's Big Burger for 21 years. He was a U.S. Army Korea veteran. Mr. Stafford was the son of the late Ellie Mae Shirley and Henry Cleveland Stafford. He married Ruth Adams March 14, 1953. Mr. Stafford was a member of West Point Masonic Lodge #159 F&AM.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home. Funeral will be Friday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Avery Jones and the Rev. Eddie Brock officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Adams Stafford of West Point; two daughters, Debbie Lee of Columbus, Sandra Kay Cox and her husband Dewey of West Point; one son, Larry W. Stafford and his wife Melody of West Point; five grandchildren, Shawn Lee and his wife Lisa, Jennifer Edwards and her husband Jonathan, Clay Stafford, Jamie Cliett and her husband Robbie, all of West Point, Melissa Lott and her husband Michael of Cleveland; four great-grandchildren, Seth Edwards, Christopher Lee, Megan Cliett, Garrett Edwards, all of West Point; one sister, Mary Greene Johnson of Savannah, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Stafford and his wife Margurite, Robert Earl Stafford and his wife Mary Edna, all of West Point.
Pallbearers include Clay Stafford, Michael Lott, Jonathan Edwards, Robbie Cliett, Shawn Lee and Aubrey Blair. Honorary pallbearers include past and current elected officials of Clay County, all county employees, all former patrons of Stafford's Big Burger, members of Trinity Baptist Church, members of West Point Masonic Lodge #159 F&AM and all his friends in Clay County.
