  Calvin S. Dorwin may have gotten the "S" middle initial from his mother's maiden name, Stackhouse. He had two brothers and three sisters. He was a harness maker by occupation, had "limited" education and was politically a member of the Whig party. He was about 5' 9" tall, weighed 135 pounds, of slender build, of light complexion, and had brown hair and dark eyes at the time he was married in 1846. He died of typhoid fever on February 21, 1856 in Decatur, Indiana. He was 37 years old when he died. His son, Cornelius Trenton Dorwin, was 8 years old at the time.
