- Ziba Dorwin was first a shoemaker and later an inn keeper. He had six brothers and five sisters. His education was "limited". He was married in Milton, Chittendon Co., Vermont to Anna Stackhouse. She was from England. He was a member of the Whig political party. He was about 5' 7" tall, and weighed about 130 pounds. His complexion was "sallow", his hair was dark and his eyes were gray. The 1800 census shows Ziba in Franklin County, VT. The 1820 census shows Ziba in Milton, Vermont (pg. 1261). The 1850 census shows him in Adams Co., Indiana (pg. 155). His will is recorded in the Adams Co. Will Book, 1837-88, Books A&B, Roll 96, Pgs. 323-324. The will is dated 1-21-1864. It was probated 2-3-1864. Heirs listed include: Wife Abigail, Cornelia Abel, Thomas M. Dorwin, and Betsey Emery. Thomas M. Dorwin is listed as the executor.
Ziba - with his brother, Calvin T. Dorwin, owned taverns in Monmouth Twp. in Adams Co., Indiana.
