- Amasa is described in the records of Waterbury, CT as the third child of Thankful and Samuel Darwin. There must have been a child that died very early ahead of or after his older brother, Thomas. An Amasa Darwin served in the Revolutionary War from Vermont. He served in Capt. Oliver Potter's co., Col. Seth Warner's regt. in the year 1775 in an expedition to Canada. This is according to The State of Vermont, Rolls of the Soldiers in the Revolutionary War, 1775 to 1783 by J.E. Goodrich (ed.), 1904. Seth Warner was a cousin of Ethan Allen and was involved in the capture of Fort Ticonderoga on May 10, 1775.
