Planada Baby Smothers to Death in Crib
A Planada baby smothered to death yesterday in the sleeping bag in her crib. Burial services for Margaret Kandis Dunlap, one year and seven months old, daughter of Harold N. and Doris Dunlap of Planada, will be held tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in the Plainsburg Cemetery with Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home in charge. The Rev. Lewis A. Whitehead will officiate. Coroner J.C. Brooks said the mother placed the baby in the crib yesterday morning, and a short time later discovered that the little girl had suffocated in the sleeping bag inside the crib. The child was rushed to a local clinic and there pronounced dead on arrival. The baby was born in Merced. Surviving are the parents; a sister, Helen Marie Stafford; a brother, Thomas James Stafford; and a grandfather, Walter D. Ledford of Long Beach.
