- Beatrice
Italian and French form of Beatrix, occasionally used in England duringthe Middle Ages, and strongly revived in the 19th century. It is mostfamous as the name of Dante's beloved. Cognates: Scottish Gaelic:Beitiris. Welsh: Betrys (a modern Welsh spelling of the English givenname).
Short form: English: Bea.
Beatrix
English and German: from a Late Latin personal name, which was borne by asaint executed in Rome, together with Faustinus and Simplicius, in theearly 4th century. The original form of the name seems to have beenViatrix, a feminine version of Viator “voyager (through life)”, which wascommon among early Christians. This was then altered by association withLatin Beatus “blessed” (Via- and Bea- being pronounced very similarly inLate Latin). Cognate: Spanish: Beatriz. See also Beatrice.
Pet forms: English: Beat(t)ie. Italian: Bice.

Ann
English: variant spelling of Anne, Ann was the more common of the twospellings in the 19th century, but is now losing ground to the form withfinal -e.
Anne
English, French, and German form (via Old French, Latin, and Greek) ofthe Hebrew female name Hanna “He (God) has favoured me (i.e. with achild)”. This is the name borne in the Bible by the mother of Samuel (seeHannah), and according to non-biblical tradition also by the mother ofthe Virgin Mary. It is the widespread folk cult of the latter that hasled to the great popularity of the name in various forms throughoutEurope. The simplified form Ann was in the 19th century very much morecommon, but the form with final -e has grown in popularity during the20th century, partly perhaps due to the enormous popularity of L. M.Montgomery's story Anne of Green Gables (1908), and partly due toPrincess Anne (b. 1950). In Ireland Anne has been used as an Anglicizedform of Áine. See also Anna. Pet forms: English: Annie. French: Annette,Ninon. Breton: Annick. Low German: Anke, Antje. Dutch: Anneke.

Trees

Treece
English: topographic name from the plural of Middle English tre(w) ‘tree’.
