  From the Bennington Banner February 12, 1968 WILLIAM CARLETON PAYNE DORSET - William Carleton Payne, 31, veteran of the Vietnam War, died unexpectedly Sunday in Sterling, Mass. He was born in Dorset Oct 24, 1936, son of Carleton and Emma (Streeter) Payne. Mr. Payne was a member of the Dorset Congregational Church and of Harned Fowler VFW Post of Manchester. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Dennis Roberts of Dorset; two sisters, Mrs. Loren Butler of Dorset and Mrs. James Christman of Pawlet; his grandmother, Mrs. Alice Payne of Dorset; nieces and nephews.
