MRS. FANNIE V. STAFFORD AGED 54 YEARS AND ONE OF THE BEST KNOW OF THE OLDER DECATUR WEST SIDE RESIDENTS DIED SUDDENLY AT 420 MONDAY MORNING AFTER A FEW MINUTES ILLNESS. THE DEATH CAME AS A SURPRISE AND A SHOCK TO MEMBERS OF HER FAMILY AND TO HER MANY FRIENDS IN THE CITY WHO ALTHOUGH THEY KNEW HER HEALTH HAD BEEN FAILING NOTICEABLY HAD HEARD NO COMPLAINTS FROM HER. SHE DIED BEFORE MEDICAL AID ARRIVED A FEW MINUTES AFTER AWAKING FROM A SOUND AND SEEMINGLY HEALTHY SLEEP.
SHE WAS THE WIFE OF O. C. STAFFORD, 1064 W MAIN STREET AND HAS MADE HER HOME IN DECATUR SINCE SHE WAS SIXTEEN YEARS OLD. FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS SHE HAS SUFFERED SOMEWHAT FROM NERVOUS TROUBLE AND ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO RECOVERED FROM AN ATTACK OF THE GRIP WHICH SWEPT THROUGH THE FAMILY AS IT DID IN SO MANY DECATUR HOMES. SUNDAY MR. AND MRS. STAFFORD WITH THEIR DAUGHTER AND SON IN LAW, MRS. AND MRS. FLOYD NEEDHAM WALKED TO CHURCH IN THE MORNING AND AFTERWARDS CAME TO THE WEST MAIN HOME FOR DINNER AND A FAMILY GATHERING. MR. AN MRS. STAFFORD READ UNTIL ABOUT 10 PM AND THEN RETIRED FOR THE NIGHT. MR. STAFFORD WAS AWAKENED ABOUT FOUR OCLOCK BY THE COLD AND AFTER TENDING TO THE FURNACE CAME BACK TO FIND HIS WIFE AWAKE. SHE COUGHED SEVERAL TIMES AND HE BROUGHT A GLASS OF WATER. SHE DID NOT COMMPLAIN OF ILLNESS BUT REMARKED AN UNUSUAL FEELING AND WONDERED WHAT WAS THE MATTER WITH HERSELF. WITHIN FIVE MINUTES THE END HAD COME TO THE SURPRISE OF MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY WHO BEING AROUND REACHED HER BEDSIDE TOO LATE.
MRS. STAFFORD IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND AND THREE CHILDREN: MRS. LLOYD NEEDHAM, HELEN AND CHESTER STAFFORD ALL OF DECATUR. SHE WAS BORN IN SOUTH BEND IND AND CAME TO DECATUR WHEN A GIRL. FAMILY, NEIGHBORS AND FRINDS HAVE LOVED AND REVERED HER AS A FINE CHARACTER AND PERFECT MOTHER GIVEN OVER TO HOME LIFE.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH AND FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE STAFFORD HOME FROM 10 TO 12 TUESDAY.
ARRANGEMENTS ARE NOT COMPLETE.
