- Obituary: On Friday, June 8, 2007, my dad, Drexil Johnson passed away. He was the son of Curtis and Essie (Childers) Johnson. Essie is the daughter of Thomas and Nannie (Mollet) Childers, grand-daughter of Aurthur and Pricy (Boyd) Childers, and great-grand-daughter of Abrahamand Elizabeth (Preston ) Childers. Dad fought a long and hard battlefollowing surgery in 1988 for stomach cancer. Although he lost considerable weight, Dad continued to work around the home until his condition was complicated by emphysema over the past few years.
Drexil Johnson, 76, of Ashley, died early Wednesday morning (June 6, 2007) at Wintersong Village Nursing Home, Delaware.
He was born March 27, 1931 in Weeksbury, Ky., to Curtis and Essie (Childers) Johnson. A 50-year resident of the Ashley community, he was a collector of miniature trains and nutcrackers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired foreman at Marion Power Shovel after 32 years of service. He enjoyed camping, his family and being everybody?s handyman.
He is survived by his wife, Virgie (Richardson); three daughters, Adrienne (Danny) Estep of Ashley, Luwanna (Raymond) Bach of Delaware and Geneva Blankenship of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one son, Tom (Kathy) Johnson of Joliet, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Karen Jaynes of Denver, Colo.; one stepson, Jim Miles of Wooster; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Charlotte Hale of Pikeville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lois Campbell; and one brother, Thomas.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturdayat Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Ashley Chapel, 307 E. High St., Ashley, where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Dwight Cimino officiating. Interment will be in Ashley Union Cemetery.
