John Stafford, the oldest son of James Stafford and Abigail Davis, was born 15 Dec 1894 in Virginia. His parents brought him to Paintsville Johnson Co., KY in 1808. John married Calista Alice Nott 8 Apr 1825: she was born 15 May 1808 in Orange Co. NY, the daughter of Arbuth A. Nott and Laura Allen Schofield. Calista died 25 Feb. 1865: she is buried in Staffordsville, Johnson County KY. John secondly married Nancy E. Ratliff later in 1865. He died 15 Dec. 1869 and is also buried in Staffordsville, KY. He was a wealthy farmer who owned much land in Johnson County. John was active in the formation of Johnson County, serving as a magistrate in the new county.
