Notes for Ezekiel Travis:
or Ezekiel Stafford Travis or Ezekial Stafford Travis. His name was never recorded with his presumed middle name.
Ezekiel and Martha continued to move west with the rest of the Travis family until they settled on the Bowie River. When Jasper County was opened up for settlement in 1833, they moved there, and lived near where Heidelburg, MS s presently located. Other of their kin who moved with them into Jasper County were the Rogers, Heidelbergs, and Cooleys who settled near them. The Staffords moved into the county later.
Ezekial Travis was issued a land grant from the Jasper County courthouse at Paulding; records from the courthouse were lost in a fire.
The Travises were very active in the founding and life of the Shady Grove Baptist Church near Stafford Springs, and are kin to most of the people buried in its cemetery.
