  Commander of brig of war AMERICA lying at Black Rock, 1777. The Families of Old Fairfield by Donald Lines Jacobus. Brig. AMERICA - This vessel was like the MIFFLIN, evidently given over to the supervision of General Stillman for guard duty at the western end of the Sound. The only mention of her thus found is under the date of March 7, 1777, when Capt. John Nott, en at Black Rock in Fairfield, was permitted to take on board a sufficient number of men to navigate the AMERICA to the port of New London, and then upon arriving there to dismiss said crew saving enough enough to work on board and to take care of the brig. crew list given or thus far available.
