  Claude “Elwyn” Harris, age 97 of Chadbourn went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at his residence. Final rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Dr. Reverend Danny Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. (one hour prior to the service) at the church. A native of Elizabeth City and a resident of Chadbourn since 1949. He was the son of the late Annie Stafford Harris and Claude Leon Harris and the husband of the late Virginia Carolyn Bailey Harris. He was also preceded in death by three siblings, William Stafford Harris, Elizabeth Harris Simer and Margaret Ann Harris Waters. Mr. Harris was a veteran serving in the United States Coast Guard. He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters, Carolyn H. Leeds (Ralph) of Jacksonville, Ellyn Harris (Leland Denney) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Suzanne Harris (Alton Chewning) of Chapel Hill; a son, Everett E. Harris of Arlington, MA; one grand-daughter, Hadley Merizalde Cheris (Alejandro Merizalde) of New Bern.
