Donald was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on May 8, 1919. He attended New Trier High School in Chicago, Ill. After graduating from the Massachu-setts Institute of Technology in 1942 with an engineering degree, he went to work for the General Electric Company. In that same year, Donald married Marie Louise "Taffy" Stafford of Philadelphia, Pa.
Throughout his career of some 40 years with GE, Donald held a series of management positions with ever-increasing responsibility which eventually led him to be head of the GE lamp division out of Nela Park, Cleveland, Ohio (1960-1967) and then on to the New York City office where he was a group vice president (1967-1972). His last position with GE was as regional vice president out of the Philadelphia office where he added extensive civic service to his business accomplishments.
