  From Software Toolworks Multimedia Encyclopedia: Marlborough, Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Sarah Churchill, b. Sarah Jennings, May 29, 1660, d. Oct. 18, 1744, a clever, mercurial beauty, was the confidante of Princess (later Queen) ANNE from childhood and in 1677 or 1678 married John Churchill, later duke of Marlborough. A lady of the princess's bedchamber, she reconciled Anne to WILLIAM III after he deposed the princess's father, JAMES II, in 1688. Sarah promoted her husband's interests. Although he was disgraced and dismissed in 1692, Sarah remained in Princess Anne's employ. The couple returned to full favor when Anne became queen in 1702. The duchess's political intrigues and domineering personality, however, led to her dismissal in 1711. After the duke's death in 1722, Sarah completed BLENHEIM PALACE, Oxfordshire.
