Jerald Edward (Stafford) Hastings, b 16 Nov 1925, d 21 May 2007, was born out of wedlock as the son of Muriel Ideal Phernetton, b 1903 d 2002, and Kenneth Lee Stafford, also my grandfather that me and my two sisters, Sharon Lee and Linda Susan, never got to know. I appreciate all of the information you have on the Staffords, and I realize it is a lot of work and research. Thank you. My dad had only one opportunity to get to meet Kenneth, and he was then only a teenager. In his last days, he wished to change his "given" name to what it said on his birth certificate, and his wife would have done so also, of course.
Just a little about my father: Jerald worked in the mines in Idaho, before he was old enough to, and then he went into the military service at a young age, and retired from the Air Force in 1967. He then spent another 20 some years working for the telephone company here in Salem, and in Corvallis, OR, and then retired. He was a hard worker all his life, but I believe he was a farmer at heart. He also loved working with wood, and had desired to make violins. He loved bird-watching, and made many bird houses that were hung all over his property. He cherished all of us girls, and was very protective, treating us like little princesses. He died of a blood disorder, much like leukemia, after being very healthy all of his life. I miss him very much...and I wonder sometimes if he was just a little like his father, grandfather, or great-grandfather.
I am including a picture of him that was taken two years before he died. My mother has many more from when he was very young.
