Nathaniel Stroup
Nathaniel H. 'Nate' Stroup was born July 8, 1906, in Rossville, Kans., and died in Belleville June 24, 1981, at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 16 days.
His early years were spent in the Rossville-Topeka area. During WW II, 1942-1945 he was a member of the US Army and served as a communications sergeant in the European theatre. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart (with one Bronze Oak leaf Cluster) for his part in the Allied Invasion.
Following his discharge in 1945 he resumed working for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1967.
In July, 1946 he was united in marriage to Blanche Petr (sic) and they resided in Belleville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche, of Belleville; a stepdaughter Irene Mottl of San Bruno, Calif., two step-grandsons, Richard Mottl of Littleton, Colo., Kerry Mottl of Houston, Tex., five step-greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 27 from the Presbyterian Church, Cuba, with Rev. Karen Kokles officiating. Burial was in Kopsa Cemetery.
