She attended gra de school in Mounds View and graduated from Columbia Heights High Scho ol in Columbia Heights, Minn. (about five miles from Mounds View). Dusty was an adventurous young lady and wanted to some more of the countr y. After graduating from high school, she went to Ocean City, New Jersey a nd held a summer job at a resturant on the Boardwalk. Her cousin, Cynth ia (Cindy) Stafford happened to be doing the same thing at the same tim e. Neither one knew that the other one was working on the same Boardwal k. They were not in communication at that time. Dust liven in Minnesota a nd Cindey was living in Valley Forge, Penna. at the time. They happen ed to meet in Ocean City and of course everyonewas pleasantly surprised. Dusty then moved to Hawaii for several years. Whilethere she met Sam Pitt s, pm active duty in the US Navy at that time, stationed in Hawaii. They m arried while he was still in the Navy. When he was discharged they mov ed to his home town, Houston, Texas, where tyhey lived until Dusty died su ddenly from a heart attack at the age of 39 years. Dusty's dead was a tragedy in several ways. She had a six month old bab y, Travis, when she died. She had just received a present from her moth er and called her long distance to thank her for the present.
