Joshua Stafford paid for 176 days service in the South Carolina militia in 1780-81 (Book "N" p. 311, Stub Entries to Indents, South Carolina Revolutionary War claims, edited by Salley). In the same book and page, his son Robert Stafford was paid for 181 days service in 1780-81. All paid April 7, 1785." The following is at odds with other research. From "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia", vol. 8 - 1988: "Joshua Stafford was born about 1725 in Beaufort County, North Carolina, a son of John Stafford and his wife, Ann Wyatt (dau. of John Wyatt of Virginia). He was married twice, but all of the children were born by his first wife, Martha (maiden name unknown). She died in 1793 in Screven County, Georgia, and on August 2, 1794 in Screven County, he married Mrs. Mary Lane, widow of Thomas Lane of that county. The known children of Joshua and Martha Stafford were: (lists Joshua Jr. who married Margaret Ironmonger, but he was a nephew) 2. Robert (vol I) b. 1755, m. Jane Blair, dau of William. 3. Martha b. 1760, m. Henry Joyce (vol. I) 4. Ezekiel (vol 1) b. 1773, m. 1) Mary Rawls, 2) Mary Eastwood | STAFFORD, Joshua Sr. (I8550)
