At age 20, he traveled on the ship Europa between Cherbourg, France and New York City, arriving Aug. 22, 1935. The passenger list from which this was taken, indicated that he was born in San Francisco, CA. Another passenger list indicated he sailed on the Queen Mary. He was a U.S. Naval Officer during World War II on board an oil tanker in the Pacific. He met Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Stafford when a military friend got shipped out suddenly and asked Mike to fill in for him in dating her in his absence. Mike was a lieutenant jr. grade at the time he married Betty. He was in the sales profession most of his later life, but also owned a bowling alley in Oakland, CA at one time.
